About Us
The Sierra-Sacramento Child Abuse Prevention Councils Regional Coalition is a project of the State Office of Child Abuse Prevention Department of Social Service. Coalition members from the 15 counties meet regularly to support each other with training and networking between councils, lead by a Regional Coordinator.
Coalition Activities
- Meet 10 times per year for training and to share information
- Provide a local network of trainers to support our councils
- Trainings have included:
- Train the trainers workshop on Internet Safety and Cyber Bullying
- Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention Programs
- Parent Leadership
- Father Involvement
History of Child Abuse Prevention Councils
The Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council Act, passed by the California Legislature in the 1980's, requires each county to facilitate the formation and funding of a child abuse prevention council (CAPC) to support child abuse intervention and prevention activities. The Welfare and Institutions code, Section 18967, further stipulates that each county is authorized to establish a County Children's Trust Fund for the purpose of funding local child abuse prevention activities.
